I grew up in rural Northwest Indiana under meager circumstances. By rural, I mean the final stop on a dead-end road in one of the least populated counties in Indiana, where the great expanse of corn, mint, and soybean is momentarily interrupted by what remains of the Grand Kankakee Marsh. Being an only child, I spent most of my time alone, outside exploring the nearby wilderness. I also enjoyed the solitary pursuits of reading, writing, and sketching.
When I was a small child my parents would take me tent camping at Turkey Run State Park. The canyons, cliffs, and amber flow of Sugar Creek enchanted me to no end and my lifelong love affair with camping began.
In 2011, I graduated from Purdue North Central in Westville, Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. I concentrated in American Literature with aspirations of becoming a fiction writer. After completing my bachelor’s degree, a began a master’s program at the University of Valparaiso but dropped out after my first year due to extenuating life circumstances.
